FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU’s campus bookstore purchased a liquor license, which ain’t exactly free, just to sell bottles of commemorative red and white wine to celebrate TCU’s 150th anniversary. Not sure if those brands pass the swish ‘n’ spit test during a wine tasting, but the 150th year of the university may be the finest in the history of the school. Certainly it was the finest in the history ...

NCAA President Charlie Baker wants a federal law to regulate the way college athletes can be compensated for name, image and likeness that creates a registry of deals, agent certification and uniform contract standards. Baker hopes a bill can move through Congress in the fall before next year's election cycle ramps up. If not, Baker says the NCAA has to be prepared to try to cleanup NIL on its own. Speaking at the Future of College Sports Summit in Washington, Baker says the previous NCAA leadership made a mistake in not trying to regulate NIL on its own.

Florida and Miami have better chances of winning the national championship than Florida State does — according to one important number, at least. It’s the Blue-Chip Ratio from 247Sports’ Bud Elliott, who’s one of the sharpest guys in the college football/recruiting space. The Blue-Chip Ratio is, as the name suggests, the ratio of blue-chip recruits (four- or five-star prospects) on a roster. ...

Jeffrey Alan Caglianone is better known as Jac and playfully nicknamed "Jactani" as an ode to two-way MLB sensation Shohei Ohtani. Florida's star pitcher/first baseman has captivated teammates, coaches and fans while putting the second-ranked Gators in position to return to the College World Series for the first time since 2018. He is the program's best two-way player since Brad Wilkerson, one of the county's most intriguing pro prospects for 2024 and could be the face of amateur baseball by the time his record-setting season ends.

The 2022-23 University of Kentucky sports year began last fall with a silly spat between the school’s two most high-profile coaches over whether UK was a “basketball school” or a “football school” before each embarked on disappointing seasons. Then the year ended, or could have ended, with you wondering if maybe, just maybe the University of Kentucky is actually becoming — are you ready for this ...

Alabama coach Nick Saban is going from a visit with children with cancer to a business trip to Washington. Saban heads to Capitol Hill on Wednesday as part of a Southeastern Conference contingent to make the pitch for federal regulation of how college athletes can make money off their fame. It's the most significant trip of the week for the Alabama coach, if not the most personally meaningful for the grandfather of a 9-year-old and 3-year-old. That was a trip to Children's Hospital for the Aflac man, who handed out robotic ducks produced by the company.

Of course Indiana State would rather be hosting this weekend's NCAA baseball Super Regionals. They've earned it. But finding workers for an unexpected third consecutive weekend of baseball tourneys and a scheduling conflict with Indiana's annual Special Olympics Summer Games made it impossible. So the surprising Sycamores promise will hit the road, needing two wins at TCU this weekend to make their second College World Series and their first since 1986. And a win at perennial power Vanderbilt earlier this season has made them fearless.
